Surface coatings and adhesives specialist, HMG Paints of Manchester, has announced a new highways maintenance product, formulated for the filling and repair of minor potholes and pavements, the sealing of kerbstones and surface cracks, and covering existing road markings for subsequent relining. Called Roadover, this high performance product is a cold application treatment, requiring no heating equipment, specialist tools or compacting machinery.
Roadover was laboratory-developed to reduce the cost and failure rate of small road surface repairs, whilst enabling complete ease of application. During trials involving a local authority highways department and a leading contractor, it produced a high quality, professional finish on repaired potholes up to half a metre square and proved quick and simple in use.
A two-pack epoxy, Roadover is fast curing and moisture tolerant, with exceptional adhesive, anti-slip and wear resistance properties. Curing time is just 60 minutes and the product is serviceable before a full cure has been achieved, although it remains workable within the initial 10-15 minutes to allow contouring. For filling and repair purposes, it may be bulked out with suitable aggregate, up to a ratio of 4:1; the resulting mix is considerably stronger and more durable than conventional road repair products.
Compatibility with most aggregates is excellent, particularly in the 2.5ml to 20ml thickness range, and the cured surface exhibits little or no porosity. It is a straightforward, solvent-free mix and pour system, requiring no special training or equipment, and tools are easily cleaned on site after use.
Roadover is ideal for obliterating road markings prior to relining and, in most cases, paint may be applied immediately upon completion. Fully compatible with all road surface types, including concrete, it can also be used for repairing minor cracks and inclusions from 5mm upwards, sealing kerbstones and filling minor potholes, with a predicted future fail rate of less than 5%.
Combined with a competitive cost per square metre, it meets the requirements of those highways departments with tight maintenance budgets and busy repair schedules. Supplied as standard in dark grey, Roadover is offered in a choice of colours, including black, reds and greens, and shade matching to customer samples is also available.
HMG is already well known in the highways and transport sector, through its high performance anticorrosive coatings for civil engineering projects and cellulose refinishing paints for commercial vehicles, and promises to support its new product with ISO9001-accredited quality and outstanding technical support.
