TRB0012

A grainy, rough texture normally with reduced gloss. This can often be in small areas on the edge of surfaces being painted.

Causes

  1. Spray gun is too far away from the surface when applying
  2. Spraying viscosity, (thickness) is too high.
  3. Spraying too fast
  4. Spray gun air pressure too high
  5. Wrong spraygun settings or set up, (for example gun tip size too small for product).
  6. Wrong thinner used, (too fast).

Prevention

  1. Use recommended air pressure.
  2. Use a spraying technique that gives nice even flowing application.
  3. Adjust the gun settings accordingly to the product, (spray ark, liquid feed).
  4. Only use recommended thinner and use the appropriate thinner for the size of the job and spraying temperature.
  5. Keep spray guns well serviced and clean.

Rectification

Minor cases of dry spray can be rectified by compounding/sanding and polishing. Dependant on the severity of the dry spray sanding and respraying may be required.
